My sweet little Teresa celebrated her third birthday at the end of last month. This was the child that I couldn't wait to be born, literally! Those last couple of weeks were unbearable. To make things worse, the perinatalogist was just sure, despite the test results, that I had diabetes and the baby would be huge. So, he was pressing to have her delivered early.
We finally gave in, just shy of my due date and let the midwife "jumpstart" labor. We thought we were good to go and checked into L&D, only to have the contractions die down and eventually stop. We spent the next couple of hours trying different tricks, from the birthing ball to a "birthing" tub which was smaller than our tub at home!
Eventually, I ended up on Pitocin and things got moving for real. Just when the contractions got really effective (read painful) I asked for the epidural which I do at every delivery even though I strongly go into labor not wanting one. Fortunately, Court and the midwife were able to stall long enough for it to be too late and Teresa was born. She was so dark and had a full head of jet black hair.
She had a hard time nursing that first week, but was an unbelievable sleeper! What a little gift that was!
And now she is three. She follows big sister Clare around, repeating everything Clare says. When we go places in the van, she asks for "Bare Ladies" (Bare Naked Ladies, one of our favorite bands despite the name) and keeps telling me to "Turn it up!" even after I do! Everyone comments on her beauty and big sister Katherine loves to follow her around with a camera, shooting hundreds of pictures of her every move.
She acted a little shy at her birthday party at Grandmom's. It was hard to get a good picture. She did brighten up for ice cream, and then for presents, of course!
Happy Birthday to your beautiful little girl!!
