Even the most devoted mothers enjoy those rare stolen moments like I had tonight. It is truly an unusual occurrence for me to be alone in the van. But the kids were home with Charlie so I could take Katherine to her baseball game because Court was running late. It turned out though, as we had suspected, that the field was too wet and the game was then cancelled. Remembering that I had some books on hold at the library I headed that way while Court took Katherine home.
So, I popped in my absolute favorite Jimmy Buffett album, Hot Water, and was soon singing my heart out! Songs like Homemade Music, Pre-you and Smart Woman in a Real Short Skirt :-) are just so much fun! And then there is the one that quotes Mark Twain: "Be good, and you will be lonesome. Be lonesome and you will be free. Live a lie and you will live to regret it. That's what living is to me, that's what living is to me." That one just takes the weight off of my shoulders, even as I type it!
I love my kids, but it sure can be fun to sing along and drift back to simpler times. It's definitely good for the soul!
A very special thanks to Aunt Les whose gift of birthday cash a few years back paid for the CD!
